Our team Mike and Roxie have returned to the same place that we were set up serving families in Hurricane Sandy in Staten Island. We went to offer meals and to show them America has not forgotten them. This neighborhood church has been the main support system for this area!
This is the same spot... the street is now clean, but many homes are sadly still a mess. Soon 'Holy Smoke' was fired up and the smell of bbq was going again in this neighborhood.
Soon hard working families start coming, 'you guys are back?!!!!' So many mentioned how encouraging it was to see them again and know they weren't forgotten!
Stories start being told of how there are a lot of homes not being worked on because of finances. There has been no or very little governmental help in this area...... six months later.
Our support to this neighborhood is invaluable, these families appreciate the care, food and the time to tell their stories to someone who cares. Six months later after Hurricane Sandy Moms Against Hunger provides care for these families in need.

The things a family needs in a crisis like this tornado is food, water and supplies. The best way to help with the details like gas, and perscriptions and ongoing issues for a family that cannot work is to give them gift cards. MAH does this to sustain families in such an hour.

The massive 1.3 mile wide tornado slammed into Moore Oklahoma on Monday May 27th sadly killed 24 people including 9 children. In times like these Moms Against Hunger steps in to provide supplies, but more than that we bring loving arms and the emotional support of a mother for a community in shock. It is estimated that 10,000+ people have been deeply affected by the damage and destruction of this EF5 tornado.
Seven little children lost their lives at Plaza Towers Elementary
School. We bring the deepest sympathy and love from Nucerity and Moms Against Hunger to these families.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to them.
Families want us to come into their destroyed homes to tell us
their story. At a time like this, it is
important that they be able to talk to someone about their trauma. Moms are the natural ones to listen and give
them encouragement to go forward with. This
is our role in MAH to respond to each one with compassion.
While other agencies are focused on feeding, we are focused
directly on each person. MAH packed 40
lbs of supplies in backpacks and walked the streets going ‘house’ to house
touching lives and giving out first aid kits, sun block, insect repellant, baby
goods, cooling wipes and feminine hygiene goods, leather gloves and gift cards.
While they are digging through looking for anything of their former lives, we
provide instant aid for this very hour in the hot sun they are working in all
day long.
Moms Against Hunger provides emotional triage for Moore Oklahoma
families.

It takes a compassionate Mom to go site by site to offer personal aid at a time like this! Everybody wants their Mom when the life they once knew is gone - many do not have the family support, and reach for us with open arms to help them.
We apply the tender touch of sunscreen to faces that are already burned from being outside since the tornado.
Supplies are given to the Infant Crisis Services such as baby lotion, wipes, soaps, among other goods. They appreciate all the help we can give them!
Everybody needs to tell their story to help with overcoming the trauma of it all. Moms are the ones who listen and provide emotional support in such an hour.
She sets in her car unsure of the future and her next steps to take. Shes scratched up and bruised - we are able to offer her aid and supplies to help.
She doesn't feel like eating anything, nor does she want any supplies right now....but she does want to talk to someone. We provide the heart and listening ears to help her cope with this trauma. Sometimes it's not what you can give that helps, it's how you can listen with a mother's heart that helps so much in a complete loss.

Granbury Texas suffered tornadoes ranging from 160 200 miles an hour. Now entire neighborhoods are destroyed and people are missing! Moms Against Hunger was there within 24 hours in the aftermath joining hearts with those who will be able to help these many families. Igniting the hearts of moms and dads to jump in and help by showing them what to do to help is one of the goals we fulfill in a crisis situation.
Things are a real mess here, we will post more when we can ..... say a prayer for these families. Soon we will begin feeding them.

Practical supplies have arrived and there are plenty of clothing, shoes, blankets, pillows, soaps, and various food stuffs here now. Thank you to everyone in Texas who responded to this need so quickly. We appreciate your help!
The immediate needs for human care have been provided for now. The next hurtle to climb is actual funds for each family such as gas money, medication funds and the beginnings of trying to clean out their homes with shovels, rakes, garbage bags as all sorts of rubble will be needed to be cleared and removed piece by piece. Many wheel barrows and dumpters will be next to locate in all of their lives. So you can see the needs are great here in West.
The best way you can help now is to provide a gift card which can be used for any one of these items now needed. Please donate today and help a family in need.

Mike Lynch cooks late into the night for the hungry thousands.
Moms prepare food to serve for each day.
Non perishable food is brought into neighborhoods by generous donations to help. In some areas there is no other place to use but the yard... so it's used as you can see here.
W are happy to offer hot meals to the many NYPD officers who are protecting the damaged homes of families.
The National Guard guys appreciate a good meal for their many days of service as well.
Willing Moms fill a shopping cart with hot meals and trundle down streets feeding home owners working on their homes.
City workers, electrical engineers, and volunteers all get hungry too. There is no place to find a meal, so they join in with the neighborhoods as well.
Pastor's wives make a great impact in their communities during a crisis. As a mom she is caring for her neighborhood with all the help she can gather. And from the many many many families who wish to say 'thank you' to all of you who have provided the funds to help feed them.... thank you. Your donations DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE to each person we feed.

All day long people come for a hot meal...
They are so grateful for the human touch and care from a moms heart.
I watch them eat standing right next to me... then stretch and take a deep breath as if they are getting their nerve back up to go back to their destroyed homes and try again. Turn and silently go back down the street to start again. These are hard working Americans who are trying on their own to do what they can to survive. They deserve the help of other Americans...
Even our National Guard guys want a home cooked meal... we are honored to serve them too!
Your help is needed.... food supplies must be bought to keep meals going to hungry New Yorkers in their loss... please support by clicking the donate button to give.

It's cold, but the food is hot so people are able to eat and rest a little while before going back to keep working on their homes.
People have allowed us to set up in front of their homes to start cooking. One of the sites is right on the street... lots of dirt in the air... but we cook here anyway.

Sure makes disaster work easier to manage than unloading pallets of food by hand.
Set up on a cleared street and soon a hot fire is going and sizzling smells of cooking meat is wafting through the air. No signs needed.... hungry people pass the word quickly around about HOT FOOD!! No electricity needed.... BBQ always makes people feel strengthened and encouraged that they can survive the mess.
Supplies don't last very long here when so many hundreds of families have lost everything including their food and water supplies.
The next storm is coming in ... a real challenge for volunteers to keep working in.
It's simply miserable... volunteers and survivors all struggle with the incoming storm. One last meal and all has to stop until the storm passes. 500+ meals for lunch and 1.000 for dinner... hope this ends soon.... your donations are gratefully appreciated!

We are preparing to send aid to the east coast of America. Arrangements are being made about the best way to bring aid to those who lost everything due to Hurricane Sandy. Here is an update.... we will send food as soon as it is safe for Moms to go in...
Super storm Sandy over slowly weakened over land Tuesday, but not before leaving behind a massive trail of destruction across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. Initial estimates suggest the powerful storm has claimed at least 51 lives caused up to $20 billion in damage.
With adverse effects from the central Appalachians well into New England, Sandy will long be remembered for the unusual mix of weather conditions it brought millions of people across the Eastern Seaboard.
The storm’s most stunning blow landed in Breezy Point, the Queens beachfront
getaway where a massive fire gutted more than 100 homes despite the heroic
efforts of hundreds of firefighters

After the storm and after the media has left... thousands of families are left to figure out what to do to get a 'normal' life back on track. Community churches help as much as they can.... but resources and responders are in short supply as often they too have lost homes and businesses in the wake of the hurricane.
Often it is overwhelming and hearts fail for fear.... this grandmother suddenly fell as she realized she was reduced to receiving food from the hands of strangers. Why? Life has suddenly changed ....
Values change and the focus of families becomes changed as they look for simple things such as ice and food for the day. Hurricanes leave an aftermath behind them, and families are left needing help in ways they never imagined....

The water is now almost gone, and most people have forgotten that Hurricane Isaac wrecked thousands of family homes. But to the families that once lived in these homes life is forever changed. Why?
Their houses had never flooded before - so their insurance carriers didn't cover these kinds of problems. And many families don't qualify for governmental help. Some are older people and not able to go somewhere else and start over. These are real people with real problems..... who need the support of others to care. Young families living from pay check to pay check - hardly enough to cover normal expenses - not situations like this.
We provide hot meals to help their health and morale to stay strong in the midst of crisis times.

We appreciate the protection of the National Guard that provides security for us while we feed the hungry.
But moms with little ones need our help and the compassion of others to help in their time of need.

It's already so hot and sultry in the Lousiana heat this morning.. this volunteer steadily works on loading up the massive smoker with fresh chicken. Over 500lbs of chicken will be ready to eat around noon. Already we see cars pulling up to ask us if we have any food.... Serving meals to families who are trying to dig out everything that is ruined from Hurricane Isaac is a big job.
They are tired.... hungry.... many are discouraged.... no one has extra funds to deal with this. Thousands can't afford to move away from here, but wish they could. Everyone is thankful Moms Against Hunger is here to help. Just think.... what if this had happened to your family? Wouldn't it be nice to think 'mom' would be there to offer support, care and a good meal? Moms Against Hunger cares....... it takes many hands to help in such an hour. We are thankful for volunteers to help!

It takes funds to prepare food for survivors. Lots of funds. You can see a tiny view of one of the work tables with chicken being prepared to cook. There are sets of big ice chests that hold the food keeping it cold until ready to cook. Knives, spices, rice, beans, bread, sauces, paper plates, water and ice... some of the items we use each time in a storm destroyed area.
These are a couple of the details that can show you what all it means when we cook in a diseaster. Food is purchased as close to the problem area as possible to support the businesses in the area. Your help is appreciated and needed... we all work together to help one another in hurricanes, fires, tornados, typhoons and earthquakes.

LaPlace La....
He had only had 2 MRE's to eat since the storm before we arrived.... we gave him hot chicken right off the grill!!! He stood right there blowing on it and eating .... he was so hungry!!
They stood wiping sweat off their own little faces, just waiting on food to eat.
"Come stand right here and eat a plate of good food." She was ready to eat and ate every bite!
She came to ask us if we had any food... and smiled when we said "yes we do and you can have some!" She and her daughter will be taken care of till she figures out what to do now that her home is ruined. Hurricane Isaac might have taken away personal belongings, but it cannot take away our love for humanity. And love is what will help her survive and get back on her feet again. And this will be a dim memory down the road in the mind of this little girl setting in the back seat. Hungry families need help... please support Moms Against Hunger and our pledge to help.

While neighborhoods are still flooded and families are trying to come back to their homes, there simply is no place for them to go just yet. So many are in their cars.... in the heat.... no food to eat... the smell of bbq cooking is a welcome smell and sight to all.

We have already been asked to help provide upwards of 5,000 meals to Hurricane Isaac victims. This storm is NOT OVER and is creating tremendous flooding RIGHT NOW.
We have a Project Manager on the ground as safe as possible, but close to the raging storm. As soon as possible food will be given to families in need. This storm is slow moving and creating much wind and water damage because it's still over the same areas churning.
Your help is going to be needed! Moms Against Hunger will do what we can with your help to feed hungry families.
We need contributions to meet the pre-relief costs of a crew on the ground.... Please help!

Please donate to help fellow Americans in the coming distruction... most people do not have the additional supplies to rebuild their lives without others coming alongside to help. Your help is needed.... it's time to prepare our aid BEFORE THE STORM ARRIVES. As afterwards there is no time to gather food for the families whose homes are distroyed. These famiies will need help for their very next meal. Please watch with us.... pray with us.... and offer aid with us.

This is the inspiring story of a single Dad raising 3 children alone. He's a hard working father who has always put his children first. The medical needs of his children has been a heavy burden at times, but bravely he works to provide for his own without outside help. This single parent suffered enormous pain from poor dental care - due to the sacrifices he made down through the years for his children. Always putting their needs in front of his own.
Moms Against Hunger discovered this tough Dad was suffering from terrible tooth pain and had lost most of his teeth! Now how does one eat with 4 teeth left? This situation was growing worse and it was harder to eat anything at all! It's impossible to work all day with a bad toothache, and then to not be able to eat properly - this situation was making him sick and weak. His worries over his children had put his own health at risk, and he was hungry all the time!
One of our faithful partners offered to step in and help in this situation, and through YOUR DONATIONS to help - this Dad is back on the road to health and strong again.
Moms Against Hunger thanks this compassionate donor for helping to change this Dad's life....
A team worked together to come up with a way to surgically remove the remaining teeth - ending his relentless pain. Then a complete set of dentures was given to him. Today he is a different man....he is confident.. back in a full time job .... and so grateful!! "Thank you everyone for all that you have done for me.... you changed my life.... I am on my feet again... you changed my life....and I'm not hungry anymore!!"

Today was a special surprise for many people.... Ice cold fresh Minute Maid Orange Juice was delivered to hundreds. The first to receive this much needed vitamin source was a senior citizens iindependent living home called Harbour Bay Homes. They have a secure place to live, but very little else. I have seen many of them going without basic needs met and hungry. So Moms Against Hunger works to help these precious elderly Americans.
Everyone who lives on a fixed income spends a majority of their very small stipend on either medicines or sparse foods for the month. There is nothing left over for any extras. Today this HUDHousing development serves all of the seniors that live in this complex. They are so very grateful... and thankful for this gift!
This gentleman was so happy to see orange juice he opened his bottle and started drinking it right there!
It touches my heart and I wonder just how long it has been since he's been able to afford a gallon of orange juice.
He is suffering with health problems and cannot afford to have anything special each month. Coca Cola thank you!!
We drive across to another complex and are met with the same excitement... "oh thank you so much... I LOVE orange juice..... I can't wait to drink mine!" Are statements we hear over and over. Aged men and women are so grateful for this treat!
