Childbirth in the developing world

Women deserve the basic human rights of proper care during pregnancy and child birth.  Moms Against Hunger believes in supporting mothers in this most important of all human life functions.... giving birth.  It's the right of every women to be treated with compassionate care during labor and delivery, yet sadly millions of women suffer, and thousands still die because of a lack of care, antiseptic clean conditions and or the  proper delivery of a live child.

Dr, Gayla Holley went through pregnancy, labor and delivery of a baby girl in the African war torn country of Rhodesia struggling to become Zimbabwe. Her personal life changing birth experience helped to create  Moms Against Hunger 28+ years ago!  Having a child in Africa, without the personal assistance of a competent trained medical staff, shaped compassionate care deep in her soul for the needs of mothers because of the difficult time she experienced firsthand. .

Donations of Medical Equipment

 

 

A donation of medical  equipment comes in and we always have a list of nations standing in line to receive all that we can gather.  There is a huge need around the world for medical equipment! 

This donation is  examination tables, bedside tables and hospital beds (a little part of one is showing in the front right corner) I know exactly where this load of medical equipment needs to go – China!  

We have been asked to send all kinds of equipment - to many countries.  I personally have birthed a baby in Africa - so I understand first hand just how important it is to have decent  hospital equipment!  But that's another story to tell you about! 

I am thankful for every bed and every piece of medical equipment that is donated. Thank you corporate America!

An African Clinic

 This is the typical rural clinic in Africa - if there is one to be found!  It's just a small table
with a cloth over it and the various bottles and medical pharmacy supplies.  They might have tongue depressors  and ear swabs but that is about it. If a person is seriously ill, there is nothing they can do to help.  No antibiotics, no meds. and certainly no pain killers.  As you can see the Aid's poster is posted on the wall to the side of the table.  This is their only form of education about Aids Awareness. It works if the person can read, but if they cannot - there is no education at all.  

This little clinic is only manned when a passing medical person can come here to help.  Otherwise it sits until someone can come.  No consistent  medical care in a village - is a problem everywhere in Africa. There are few Doctors, and even fewer nurses to go around.  Occaisionally a medical team from another nation might come, but their efforts are few and far between among so many people.  Hospitals are found only in large cities, and ambulances are very rare in rural areas. 

People in third world nations, have no real chance of living a long and healthy life, unless other people step in and help!
