We are walking back into the mangroves in the swamps of Fiji to get to the children living in terrible conditions. We are hand carrying food to the families here with the help of many others in front of us. There is no other way to get back into this area...just by walking. At night the tide comes in and this area is under water. In the daytime the tide flows out and this area is soaked in mud, human waste and diseases.
I find a child right away....he is cold.... bare footed... coughing... and sad. This child did not know we were bringing him help. Our loving kindness to him seemed foreign to him and he was afraid to come to me.
Explaining how to cook the rice meals we brought to them. It started raining on us but it didn't matter... this food was so important for them. Everyone stayed with us to learn what to do.... it was a precious gift of life to each one.
