Reynosa Mexico is struggling to survive amidst the drug wars going on night and day. The innocent mothers and children are completely at the mercy of murderous strangers. As a mom I can't imagine how scary this is.... trying to simply get food to feed a baby.
Traveling through the streets of this dangerous town I admit does make me nervous. But I do have a destiny to fulfill and feeding mothers and children and also bringing them hope outweighs my personal concerns.
I have brought rice packets which are fortified with vegetable protein, vitamins and minerals. Keeping the mother's body strong will help her to breast feed her baby well. This heat is terribly hard to keep a good flow of breast milk going. She needs nutritious food for both she and her baby. She struggles to tell me thank you in spanish. Her little boy can't wait to eat I can tell...... I love shipping food around the world, but something so special happens in my heart when I can personally be the one to touch a mother, kiss a baby, put food in the hands of the hungry. Taking from my hands.... and putting in her hands is a wonderful feeling. No matter what the danger is.
She is a mom, I am a mom. From one mother to another.... we both simply care about the child. Not drugs, not money, not power, not politics, not the greed which drives this horrible and dangerous situation in Mexico today.
